 Guardian ad Litem

In Keeping with the National CASA Standards, a volunteer GAL should be twenty-one years of age or older. Young adults between the ages of 19 and 21 may become a certified volunteer GAL and be allowed to work under the guidance and in partnership with a certified volunteer GAL who is over the age of 21.

    • Provide three written character references.
    • Interview with local program director or designee.
    • Successfully complete 30 hours of training, which includes online, classroom, and fieldwork training.
    • Prior to the assignment of a case a new volunteer must be fingerprinted and clear a level 2 background screening. 
    • Sign a current copy of the Guardian ad Litem Code of conduct. 

    Re-certification    

    • Successfully complete 12 hours of training annually.
    • Sign a current copy of the Guardian ad Litem Code of conduct. 

    Pro Bono Attorney:

    • Be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar Association.
    • Complete and submit application and photo identification to the program in your area.
    • Re-certification:
      • Successfully complete 12 hours of court-approved training every three years.
